Dissimination and innovation of the project

Now the partnership work concerning migrant pupils has been running for almost one year, and we are happy to meet you all again to continue the fruitfull discussions which were started in the spring of 1996.
Many of you have been in contact with each other during the year and have exchanged ideas concerning possible solutions to indiviual cases.

We have enjoyed to have had a possibility to come round visiting all of you and in the news-letters we have tried to pass on information to you concerning issues from the different groups and the feed back we have got from the Commision and other foras, where we have had a possibility to present the action program.

You have received the descriptions which have been presented in the applications sent to the Commision and on the same time we have tried to give you a little notion of what is going on in some of the other partnership groups.

We expect during the coming year to be able to collect valuable material showing examples of good practise concerning the objectives which the groups have chosen to develop.
It will be of great importance for us to have as much material as possible. We have brougth with us to this conference leaflets, discriptions, news-letters and different types of assessment material.

It is obvious the some of the subjects that the groups chose to work on were ideas that had already been brought forward and developed in one of the countries. That is for example the case when we are talking about the program concerning "Learning social skills", which we are going to have a presentation and demonstration of tomorrow from Rotterdam.
The ideas and ways of good practise are now passed on to new members inside the group. This conference must be considered to be a forum where an internal evaluation of the group work up to now is supposed to take place.

It is well known that the participants directly involved in research projects and different developmental works often are the ones that through the personal experiences benefit most. It is important that very concrete despritions of ways to solve problems can be given.
You need not only think of renewal as the representation of some brand new idears - never tried before and some miracle- cure which can be invented to help migrant children with SEN. It is important that you from your various points of view representing different parts of Europe describe what will work and what causes percusions.

It must also be considered that it can be very valuable to get started on the ground where you are within a wellknown frame because it will be easiaer in the beginning to make smaller changes that do not call for a large amount of money to be provided or the presentation of a special group of children before action can take place.

Dissimination:

We have planned to make a catalogue describing new materials and ways of good practise - but we consider it of importance if the different materials can enclose some statements and comments which could reflect the idears of practise with regards to the educational legislation - for instance the national curriculum the social health care or other relevant aspects in your countries.

Many comprehensive reports have been made - they are looked upon and maybe read, but it takes some additional efforts to change good ideas into practice.
We shall recommend that local initiatives are taken in order to tell partners in your invironment and in the local school districts about the initiatives and outcomes to give inspiration and to make adjustments to your present practices.

Many efforts have been made to create scenes about intercultural education to create possibilities for a better coexcistence in a multicultural society and respect for the mother tongue and the values of the minorities is very important.
But it is often seen that representatives from the ethnic groups are not really involved in the creation of the administrative practises but are more called upon when we create spectacular feasts events special food and so on.

For tomorrow we have invited representatives form the parents groups from three ethnic minorities. We hope that they will give us valuable opinions and views upon essential aspects concerning migrant children with special educational needs.

Local coordinators

We wish you gradualy to take the part as ambassadors and local coordinators of the project. Tell about the project in your local area in health clinics, to the educational psychologist teams to social health care to the parents organizations and other important local partners.
If possible we should also suggest that you write small articles about the project.
We have sent to you the presentation we made in Leyden and we have a few more examples on articles which we present here.

Group Work - (you get a list with an overview of the 4 groups)

Representatives from the new partnership schools are suggested to make themselves aquainted with the subjects that have been defined on the last conference and decide which group and subject would fit their own needs.

You are wellcome to contact Erik Magius and Anne Marie Kidde if you have any questions or want suggestions from us.

The members of the four groups are asked to join their groups and go to the comference rooms.

For each group we have beforehand suggested a reporter and the group is asked to point out a chairman for the discussions.

Tasks for the group work:

Make a short presentation of how you presented the idears and subjects from last years conference back in your school.

What was the reaction in your school?

Which new steps were taken according to the subjects your wanted to work on?

Have your reported back to your educational authorities and has that resultated in additional resources given to the school?

Please make short statements on the applicability of the new practises according to your home school.

If possible give examples of how you have been able to use your collegues in the partnership.

Discuss and comment shortly on the work that is presented by your partners and also tell about your experiences of the cooperation.

Having been introduced to the Tess-network we ask you to point out how you expect to cooperate with each other on the internet.

Please note which subjects you consider profitable and worth working with and wich you don't consider worth the trouble.

Please pass to the coordinators discriptions of how you expect to continue the work on the subjects and mention some possible new perspectives. The coordinator and the assistent shall also be interested in some feed back about newsletters and other ways of passing relevant and adaquate informations to you.
